London Chocolate Visit 🇬🇧
London Chocolate. I found London Chocolate on a recommendation from fellow chocolate enthusiast Hazel Lee, I was absolutely delighted with both the shop and their chocolate.
It was our last day in London, with only a couple hours to spare before we departed for Bath. From our lodging we walked about a mile to their location finding London Chocolate open and welcoming.
Because co-owner Asel was in and so generously shared her time with us we were able to hear some of the story of London Chocolate as we tasted their two ingredient bean to bar chocolate, sipping chocolate, truffles, and even a rare and delicious gin made with their Madagascar cacao. Probably the best gin I’ve ever tasted.
This was the perfect way to end our time in London.
More photos of the cozy interior of London Chocolate shop below the tasting notes.
Chocolate tasting notes:
The Christmas Tea truffle, a dark chocolate filled truffle. Lovely tea and spices.
The mulled wine truffle had a gel center and paired amazingly well with the gin.
Of course I tried the Tanzania sipping chocolate. Highly recommended!
The bars:
I love the instructions on the inside wrappers of the bars. Instructions: open, smell, taste, wait…and SAVOUR.
TANZANIA 70% KOKOA KAMILI. TRINITARIO
Aromas of charred cherries comes from the chocolate in packaging when ripped open.
Burst of chocolate and stone fruits. As the luxurious melt continues notes of raisins move forward. There is some play between dark raisin and light white raisin notes.
The finish of a beautiful with a touch of earthy yet still playing with the raisins and a solid chocolate backbone.
INDIA 70% CRIOLLO & FORESTERO ANAMALAI BAR
Toast and nutty notes to start. Light fruits emerge as the melt continues then there is a sudden turn to notes of dry white wine. A bit of play between a dry and then fortrfied wine note as the melt finishes.
The finish has light tropical fruity notes with and undercurrent of the dry white wine. It reminds me of a dry white wine sangria.
MADAGASCAR 70% TRINITARIO MAVA OTTANGE PLANTATION
Baking spice notes that I don't usually experience from Madagascar chocolate came forward as the first flavors. As the melt continues cashew notes emerge then a surprise finish with a distinct mango note.
This bar presents an amazing unexpected journey of flavor. Lovely!
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 85% TRINITARIO OKO CARIBE
Earthy and nutty notes start this bold chocolate bar with a big bang. The roasted cacao notes remind me of creme brulee. This bar is very straightforward and decadently rich with a fruity acidic berry like note at the end of the very long finish. This bar would stand up very well in a rum or bourbon pairing.
Overall I'm extremely impressed with London Chocolate, flavors are spot on, packaging is beautiful with clear indication of the origin as well as the variety of cacao. I can hardly wait for another opportunity to visit. Hoping to find myself in London again soon.
