PNW Chocolate Society. It's all about connecting

It's all about connecting.

This blog was started years ago because I wanted to connect with more people who enjoy craft chocolate.

While it is fun to share craft chocolate with just about everyone, some people just don't get it.  They'll gobble down a $12 bar in an instant then say "That was good, do you have any more?".  That same $12 bar of chocolate would probably take me at least a week, if not more than a month to finish while I savor every tiny square, and even make notes in my chocolate journal with each tasting.

Slowing down to taste and sharing that experience with others.  Talking about the aromas and how we all taste some of the same flavors and some different.  Having fun putting names to the flavors, while one person says acidic, another will say specifically pineapple.  Exploring new chocolate makers, new origins, new processes. That's the connection that I wanted to have.

Last year, to build community for chocolate loving people,  Lauren Adler, creator of Chocolopolis, and I started the PNW Chocolate Society.  Our mission statement:

Everything we do is united by chocolate. We believe in having fun while tasting, pairing, evaluating, and learning about the amusing and serious sides of bean to bar craft chocolate. Our lively events explore not only tasting and pairing chocolate but also fine flavor cacao origin, chocolate makers, farmers, co-ops, supply chain, and processes. We are a community of chocolate enthusiasts who meet monthly.


The group continues to grow in numbers and as we get to know each other better at each gathering we have more and more fun.  Each meeting is different with themes from blind tastings (a favorite and most requested) to in depth talks on fermentation by Nat Bletter of Madre Chocolate, and we always taste chocolate.

PNW Chocolate Society meetings have become a place where it is ok to geek out with other chocolate aficionados as well as bring friends who you want to introduce to fine chocolate.   There is no membership joining process or fee, we prefer to keep things simple.  Just join us when you can make it to a meeting.  Each meeting is priced to cover costs, most of the time about $15.
