Chocolate is an Agricultural Product

It is amazing how often I have this same conversation with people who are just beginning to explore chocolate.  It is like a light bulb that turns on right over their head when I mention that chocolate is really an agricultural product.

Cacao grows on a tree just like an apple grows on a tree.  That says real food to me.

While I think it is a great idea to eat chocolate daily, I do believe in eating only fine chocolate in small amounts.  I usually have only one or two small squares of chocolate each day, and it takes me a very long time to finish a bar.

Someday I'll talk about how to store fine chocolate bars so that you can enjoy them one bite at a time.

Do you have a favorite region for chocolate?  I'd love to hear about it.

Enjoy the day, eat fine chocolate!

  1. And what a tree it grows on too! Unlike an apple, the cacao pods (which have the cacao beans inside) grow right on the trunk of the tree. I travel to the source in search of the best tasting beans that I can sustainably source for making indi chocolate. I hope to have more pictures of the pods up on my website soon (http://indichocolate.com).

My favorite region is Honduras. indi chocolate does not hide or mask the flavor behind vanilla or soy lecithin either. indi chocolate makes high percentage dark chocolate with just the cocoa beans, a little extra cocoa butter (to give the best melt and mouth feel) and a little sugar (just the right balance and not too sweet), Yum!

  3. Growing up in our media crazed environment where every temptation to enjoy chocolate confections is put before us, it's difficult not to think of chocolate as a candy, sweet, or dessert. Thanks for the reminder that its an agriculturally grown food. Which gets me to thinking about my favorite authentic Mexican food with Mole Negro sauce that includes chocolate.
