Beanpod Chocolate Fernie BC 🇨🇦

Meet James of Beanpod Chocolate.

My husband and I took a little ski trip through the Canadian Rockies we stopped in Fernie BC for a few days of skiing. The first day it was raining on the slopes so we walked the town instead of skiing. I love it when I find a small batch bean to bar maker while traveling, and I love it even more when I meet the maker.  

 As soon as we walked into the shop I was drawn to the heavy equipment sloshing and mixing chocolate. It is mesmerizing to watch chocolate in action. It also lets me know that this shop is the real deal, truly bean to bar. 

Tasting notes on the Beanpod 70% bar:  Soft notes of plum as the bar starts to melt moving quickly into deeper chocolate flavors with a nutty cashew backbone then crisp clean fresh whipped cream notes and a finish that reminds me of freshly baked cookies. All flavors are clean and distinct. The finish lass minutes on my palate with flavors I don’t wand to end.  

Beanpod offers both milk and dark chocolate Ecuador origin bars as well as quite a few bars with inclusions. The famous Fernie bar made with milk chocolate and chunks of honeycomb (see photo above) is just one of their interesting bars.  Seasonally they offer fresh truffles just before major holidays as well as gelato featuring local ingredients in the summer. 

They buy organic beans direct from the farmers and unload the containers with local friends who help out. An old fashioned chocolate maker in our modern day world with community around to help. What a lovely way to live. 

  

 

Another interesting aspect of this shop, no wholesale, their shop with the super cool mural on the exterior side wall is the only place to get Bean Pod bars. 

Just traveling around finding fine chocolate everywhere I go, even in the Canadian Rockies.
