Chocolopolis Grand Opening & Phenominal Pear

Tonight I visited the grand opening of the second Chocolopolis store at the Bravern in Bellevue WA with a couple of good friends.  I usually visit Chocolopolis on Queen Anne about once or twice a week, usually for a cup of their sipping chocolate.  If you haven’t tried sipping chocolate yet and you like really fine chocolate put it on your to taste list.  It is NOT just a cup of regular old hot chocolate, nothing like it at all.

Back to the grand opening at the Bravern...great knowedgable and friendly staff, tastings galore, and again I learned more about chocolate.  Tonight we sampled two different types of 100% chocolate bars, Pralus and Claudio Corallo. 100% is as dark as it gets with no sugar or vanilla added at all.  Each bar was distinctly different and superb in their own way.  We also sampled most of the rest of the Caludio Corallo line of single estate chocolate (more to come on that later).  We tasted chocolate sweetened with agave by Fine and Raw, a chocolate caramel, and a new rum raisin chocolate.  I always love rum and chocolate.

Chocolopolis had their own salted fruit and nut bar out for tasting, the only fruit and nut bar with salt that I have had so far.  Very well done, yum!

The grand opening sample that gets the grand prize from me was the chocolate dipped salted pear.  Absolutely phenomenal!  I've had other chocolate dipped dried fruit but never anything as memorable.  This combination is just perfect.  First you bite through the dark chocolate then you come to the soft, supple perfect pear, (NOT at all dry and chewy), then the sprinkling of sea salt wakes up your taste buds and brings together the sweet of the pear and the chocolate.  WOW!  Loved it, wish I had another right now.

I’ve found a perfect hostess gift for the upcoming holiday season, chocolate dipped salted pears!
